Return to the LA Roadtrip - January 2015 Day 2 Porto's & cool window art @ Creature Features

Everytime we stay overnight in Burbank...

Porto's - Burbank

Finally! My LAST post on our Summer Road Trip!

As mentioned in the previous post, the next day was Father's Day. Instead of eating the spaghetti and pizza leftovers from Guido's, we got up early so we could go to Porto's in Burbank.

Thankfully it was only a few minutes away and we were able to snag some coveted parking in their private lot!

Summer Road Trip 2015 Day 10 - The Drive back, Blackwell's Corner & Porto's

This was it, our last day of our epic 10 day road trip...

We left Paso Robles super early to beat traffic on the way back home.

This was July 4th after all and we wanted to make it for early dinner at my parents...

Return to Whimsic Alley

Back to my Food Roadtrip with D...

After having chowed down on those delectably wicked wings from KyoChon in Cerritos, we headed to downtown L.A.

(downtown L.A. skyline) Since both of us are Potter freaks, there was only one place we were going...

Desserts galore!

As mentioned in a previous post, my Ninang (whom we visited recently this past summer as well as two years ago) was celebrating her 70th birthday as well as her 30th wedding anniversary. The surprise party (which turned out not to be a surprise after someone inadvertently spilled the beans) was organized and hosted by her oldest son, my godbrother.  The party turned out to be quite the reunion.

Folks drove in from afar, as well as a few close friends who came in from Hawaii...

Porto's, ice cream from Ralph's, return to Juice Adventure, Mandarin Chinese + treats from Trader Joe's

Last month, we celebrated the youngest niece's birthday which was also the same night of the Pacquaio fight. I stayed for the birthday party but left for the fight so I could decorate the living room early for Christmas (pre-Thanksgiving weekend) because I'm anal like that.

Anyhow, Bert texted me these photos...

To which I replied, "Well bring some of that home then!"....

The last stops: THH & Cream Pan

Behold...the new Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet sign on the I-5...

The road here has been widened and was one of the surprises we discovered while on our way home from our Spring Break trip earlier this year.

Our last stop was House Roots Coffee in Granada Hills...A few hours later, we were passing by downtown LA...

Martino's Bakery

Not that far from Creature Features was Martino's Bakery...

which was known for a very specific baked good that I was curious in trying.

The Balcony

The night was still young and we were not in a hurry to get back to San Diego.

Here's the view from the second floor right above 85C. Bon Epi and Chae Banh are on the other side of this complex.

Pork 'n Skrimps + Mother's Day Dinner

Pork and what?

Skrimps, or shall I say, Bagoong alamang, aka "salted shrimp fry"...

A most "fragrant" addition to any Filipino meal...

A quartet of bakeries - Los Pollos Cuban, Hogetsu, Papa Luna's & 85c

This post is a compilation of a few places where I had baked goods...

at places that aren't quite traditional bakeries. The first is a fairly new place in East CV...

Spring Street Farmer's Market

Driving around the historic core of downtown L.A. before it got crowded was pretty interesting...

We saw lots of beautiful architecture such as this old movie theater that was converted to a church...

Below was another vintage theater...

This particular bookstore was on our list of "must see" things in L.A. and I was determined that we should see it before the end of our trip...

Little Jewel of New Orleans

Like the Pied Piper of Hamlin, the nattily dressed Carl Baldwin led us down the street to one of his favorite new eateries in Chinatown...

the newly opened (at the time) Little Jewel of New Orleans...

which he and his wife raved about. We couldn't pass up on their recommendation especially since po'boys were on the menu...
