Mad Fix Coffee + breakfast @ Caffe Italia

[Update - MadFix Coffee is now gone and replaced with Heartsleeves Coffee as of 11/2015]

This would be my last weekday of vacation...

With only a few hours to spare in the morning (between shuttling TC to tennis practice and picking her up)...MN and I enjoyed some quality time together at a new coffee shop in Little Italy...

located at the cute row of cottages on W. Fir St...

This new coffee place replaced the now defunct cupcake shop, Adore, in which the owner, without my permission, used my photo of my cupcake on her fkg facebook page; then I called her out on it and she ended up crediting me. To be clear, I did not let her know I was a foodblogger. She happened to see my blog after a reader went to the shop after reading my post and told her that she heard about the place from me. In any case, karma! The shop's gone and she can just bite me now, haha.

Free cupcake my ass...but on to the coffee!

Last stop...Nomad

I hadn't been back to Nomad since my birthday...

when I pretty much swore off donuts...

Point Loma two-fer: Supannee & Better Buzz with the sis

Like me, my sister was also on vacation from work...

The mural above with the initials SAN (which is the San Diego airport code) at the San Diego Airport commuter terminal which sadly, replaced the iconic Charles Lindbergh mural in 2014 (officially titled, "Lucky Spirit").

(photo courtesy of waymarking.com; this mural was removed due to extensive damage in 2012)

If you ask me, I prefer the older mural since Lindbergh's plane  for his famous transatlantic flight was built in San Diego. The new mural is so busy looking and it's kind of hard to make out the letters.  The new mural was not painted but were made from digital files printed on vinyl.

Sis and nephew #2 joined TC and I for lunch earlier today in Point Loma. We took the "long way" (via Harbor) to get to Point Loma not realizing we would hit airport traffic...

Grinds and Vine Coffee Bar

How's this "stopped-at-the-light-roll-down-the-window-hurry-up-and-take-it" shot?  Thanks TC...

She does the dirty work when I'm driving, my child does...

While on the way to meet up with Cathy earlier this week, we took the LONG way to Mission Valley Mall, taking Texas St. from University Ave. I just wanted to get off the $%#@ freeway which was tied up with crappy traffic. Anyhow, as we were stopped at the light on Texas, I glanced to the right and saw a "coffee bar" sign...

Breakfast with TC @ Lil B's

Breakfast was once again enjoyed with TC...

as I braved crappy morning traffic to get over to North Park...

(photo from my "Return to Lil B's" post, March 2013)

where the once awesome rotating Lil B's sign...

The Turron & more from Azucar

With our breakfast from Perry's Cafe behind us, we headed over to OB...

where they were gearing up for their upcoming Oktoberfest...

It was still quite early in the morning .Early enough to score parking near our next destination, Azucar...

Perry's Cafe

The other day we went to Onami buffet in Mission Valley for my mom's birthday lunch. As we crossed the 5 off ramp to the 8, I saw Perry's Cafe below. It's one of those restaurants I've always looked at but never gone to...

The sloped roof and the old school look inside made me curious. The restaurant's kitchen had burned down several years ago but it was rebuilt and came back stronger than ever it seemed...

Dragonfruit from my parents

My parents started growing dragon fruit plants last summer but hardly any fruit was produced...

This year, their plants grew and multiplied like crazy and lo and behold...

Return to Miramar Cash & Carry + more flavors from Kwality Ice Cream

While our original plan was to try a new neveria down south, I suddenly realized that hey...we're near Mira Mesa...

aaaand both Bert and TC were with me...
