House of Silvanas

It was funny while driving to this bakery. Bert asked, "Haven't we been here before?" and I replied, "No, this is the first time!"...

House of Silvanas is in a tiny strip mall that is on a hill with a wierd road that leads to it. We missed it the first time then had to double back to get in. As we approached, Bert said, "Yeah, we HAVE been here before!"....

Cliff House, the Camera Obscura and Seal Rocks

The rain was really pouring now as we made our way out of the Inner Sunset all the way to the coast's edge...

This stretch of road is called the Great Highway and it straddles Ocean Beach and a few historic spots in San Francisco...

Rose Donuts (near USD)

Even though it was pretty hot, I still wanted to go to this donut place in a strip mall near USD...

They offer a combo'd fritter that I was curious to try...

Better Buzz Coffee - The Lab

Just a few blocks down from The Swell Cafe was the coffee place I was hoping to go to...

It's right by a liquor store with a big arrow which is hard to miss...

Scenes from OB

TC was kind of looking for clothes for the upcoming school year...

I knew there were a few thrift stores on Newport so we made our way there through this street...

The Swell Cafe

A few days ago TC and I went out for a late breakfast...

I thought it would be cool to try a place in Mission Beach. This train of thought displayed one of the biggest brain farts I've ever had...

Return to LAX-C + Snacks at A Taste of Thai

Since Mae Ting's was conveniently located in this same parking lot, we could not pass up an opportunity to explore LAX-C, which some folks call "The Thai Costco".

But first, a note about Chimney Brick Toast Coffee House (shown above)...they no longer make or sell their Thai tea cream puffs. Sad lemur face.  When I asked the guy at the counter he said that they weren't really popular so they stopped making them ago. Wandering Chopsticks had recommended this place for their brick toast (but I will save that dessert for another future visit) as well as that particular cream puff...

So with that fact in mind, Cathy and I kept our snacks in the car and headed into the warehouse...

The old Rubio's is now Bruxie

[Update - Closed as of October 2016]

Bruxie is now in San Diego in the College Area after a failed attempt to include it in the hoity toity Headquarters near Seaport Village...

I'm actually glad it's in a more plebeian area and what better place to put in than next to SDSU, right across the new suspension bridge...

$4 lunch at Mamma Lina's

Last week TC and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Mary of This Tasty Life during her lunch break...

She recently posted on a lunch spot favorite of hers...

Return to Mae Ting's Coconut Cakes

With nostalgic candies and interestingly flavored sodas from Galco's in the trunk, we finally made our way to the outer edges of Chinatown known as the North Industrial District...

I liked this place so much last time and was happy to be there again so soon...

Arizmendi Bakery, Sheng Kee Bakery & Tart to Tart

Immediately after our hearty breakfast at Irving Street Cafe, we checked out a few places nearby...

The intersection of 9th and Irving is considered the heart of the Inner Sunset. A bakery that my former student recommended was just up the street...
