Star Wars stencil art, Sicilian Thing Pizza + drinks at Caffe Calabria

On a recent Friday night out...

we saw these cool stencils on a lone utility box...

located on the SE corner of 29th and University, right next to the Beauty Supply Warehouse and across from Charbucks.

Loved seeing both of these here...Princess Lei and Luke Skywalker. These were put up in late May by local artist William Cook.

We were lucky enough to score a parking spot near the Chinese laundry on Granada St.  It was just a short walk away from our dinner destination, Sicilian Thing Pizza.  which was Bert's choice. He is on a pizza kick it seems, ha ha.  This mural on their south facing wall is new to me. But we haven't been here in five years! Has it really been that long?

Bert's Pilsner (forgot the brewery, but it was definitely local):

We shared three slices - Hawaiian, ricotta with pesto and sun dried tomatoes and mushroom.

I had forgotten how good their slices were! My favorite was the one I chose, the mushroom.

I also like those clumps of ricotta but couldn't eat too much of it because...well, lactose.  Not a fan of the pineapple though (his choice).

The place was getting crowded by the time we left. It was not yet dark...I wanted a coffee cocktail before heading home. It was a Friday so why not, eh.

Flyer on lamp post featuring the late Anthony Bourdain next to Streetcar on the corner of 30th and University.

Coffee & a cocktail - Bert's mocha & my "hard coffee" (the actual name on their coffee cocktails menu).

The bartender told Bert that I would be wired! I was sitting in the roasting room, away from everyone else, heh.  Nice and quiet and we didn't have to compete with the noise from everyone.

Chilled coffee with Old Forester bourbon, orange curacao and Angostura bitters. This was pretty damn good and also strong. I didn't think I could finish it, but with his help, I did.

All of that ice made it seem like there was a lot, but it wasn't.  A great way to end the night.

As always, their drinks are so smooth and well made. We've tried pretty much everything on their menu. There isn't anything bad on the menu to be honest.

And it was only a tiny bit after 8 pm.  For us, this was "late".  Damn, old age, heh.

August 2013 (wow, it's been that long!)

Previous visit to Caffe Calabria:

It was fun being out at night. We don't do that too often but with TC older now and doing her own thing, we may as well do ours.
