Robopolis part 2

Filming for "Cosmopolis" continued last night in Toronto...

They filmed the Pie scene...

Here's RPattz waiting for his close up...I like this clean cut look waaaay better than any of the Twilight movies. No lame wanna be James Dean bouffant or horrible thickass sideburns. The Hair is slightly longer than how it was for "Water for Elephants". Plus, he's in better company in terms of acting (Paul Giamatti and Juliette Binoche to name a few along with auteur David Cronenberg at the helm...). I hope his career echoes that of DiCaprio or Depp instead of falling victim to becoming another prettyboy actor. He seems to be making smart choices with his movie roles.

Return to Annie Belle's...

[Update - as of 2013, Annie Belle's closed sometime last year]

Having been in Oakland recently and remembering Merritt's Bakery, Bert had a craving for chicken and waffles...

Originally we wanted to use my coupon for Bonnie Jean's but for some reason, they were closed on Sunday! You'd think people would be going here after church and all, unless they opened after 12 noon. In any case, we didn't want to wait for lunch, so down the street we went to Annie Belle's (see original post here)...

Since it was a Sunday, they were playing Gospel music instead of Old School (I was hoping to hear more of the Old School)...

Black 'n white cockroach killers...

It's been awhile since I did a shoe post.  I haven't been wearing my heels lately since it's summer vacation. When I'm not at work, I tend to wear my  ratty flip flops or my Vans or Converse. This pair was from DSW and bought sometime this Spring for work. I wore them recently this weekend...

If you don't already know, I fkng love pointy shoes.

Float this...

We interrupt the regularly scheduled Road Trip posts for this brief excursion into the land of alcohol and ice cream.

We got the idea from our Portland visit from two years ago the night we hung out with KD's brother C. After dinner at Pok Pok, we went to Pix Patisserie which C said was known for it's beer floats. They used a local brew, Rogue's Ale for this. Both Rogue's and Young's Stout are available at your local BevMo...

Want the non-recipe? It's easy enough...

Pollyann Ice Cream

How lucky were we to have two cool dessert places side by side? When MRC suggested the ice cream place next door, I wasn't sure at first because we had already eaten those egg shaped waffles. After I found out that this place made their own ice cream and was practically considered an "institution" in San Francisco, my mind was already made up...

I was sold when she told me that her husband used to go here when he was a kid and his father before him as well.

Eggette's

This turned out to be a very awesome night. Dinner at the mysterious Korean place, then dessert which was also on Noriega but a few blocks away between 38th and 39th. My cousin and her daugher suggested Eggette's.

Eggette's is a casual eatery that specializes in...

Day 9 Highlights...

Even though we returned last week, here are acouple of shots from the last day of our trip...

Last Sunday was Father's Day so we went out to breakfast at a local Cuban place in LA...

Two words.

Potato ballz.

Dinner was spent at my parents...Here's good ole' dad making some mini omelettes with seasoned ground beef and mixed peppers...

The Filipino "tortilla" (pronounced 'tor-teel-ya'; the double "ll's" are not pronounced as "y's", which is the Spanish pronunciations) - is basically a simple egg dish in which you can put any filling you want (meat, seafood, vegetables), which are then cooked into the beaten eggs. Sometimes my mom would saute onions, tomatoes, and garlic and fold that into the eggs. That used to be one of my favorite childhood dishes. If they wanted to get fancy, they'd add ground beef and peas. It's kind of like a way to get rid of leftovers as well.

I can't believe I have two weeks left of vacation then it's back to the grind...

Toyose

After our visit to Thane's, our GPS guided us to the freeway and onto a street that passed through the Saint Francis Wood neighborhood in the City. These were some of the homes we saw off of Monterey Street as we made our way to the Outer Sunset District where my cousin lives.

Around Berkeley...

After exploring a tiny bit of Piedmont Street, we headed to our hotel to check in. Taking a familiar route, we headed down Shattuck in Oakland which goes into Berkeley. This restaurant below is in North Oakland, the interestingly named Dorsey's Locker.

As is my habit (when Bert is driving), I like taking photos of signs and restaurants while we're out. This one caught my eye with the big "Authentic Soul Food" sign.

Season 4!

More Eric Northman please!

Aaagh! Sunday can't come soon enough!

Fenton's Creamery

Although TC wanted to walk around Lake Merritt, we decided to save that for another day (which we did) and headed straight over for dessert at a venerable Oakland institution known as Fenton's Creamery...
