Riverdale Farm...
So, right across Necropolis was Riverdale Farm, which is right in the middle of an urban neighborhood. It's an actual working farm and it's free to the public.

Necropolis
Built in 1850 to replace the "Stranger's Burying Ground" (Potter's Field), the Necropolis is an old cemetery in Cabbagetown. It's right across the street from Riverdale Farm (post to follow). It's one of Toronto's oldest and most historic cemeteries. (more info here from the Necropolis website)

Canadian Candy...
A very big thanks to C from Life on Manitoulin! The package arrived a couple of days ago but I only just picked it up today from the post office.
We're going to have candy for days....From left to right: Maynards sour worms, 3 4-packs of Nestle Coffee Crisp bars, one S'more Bark bar and one "Manitoulin" chocolate candy from the Manitoulin Chocolate Works factory and two packages of Bite Size Coffee Crisps!

Ooh, bite size. I remember seeing this last year at Foodland but I bought the bars instead...

Here's what they look like...kinda like, uh pellets don't you think? But damn, do they taste good!

A serving size is 14 pieces! Yikes! I had four pieces and I felt like my teeth were going to rot off instantly! They're super sweet but I love them...in moderation of course.
For fun, I found this old Coffee Crisp commercial:
Thanks again C! Glad you liked the assorted Pocky, Collon, and Mexican snacks I sent!
Any of you out there have any favorite foreign candies?

You're gonna name your kid what?
"A Star is Born" was one of the games we played yesterday for TORC's baby shower. I saw a version of this last year at another baby shower but I thought the names were too easy, ex: Suri (duh, Tom Cruise) and Zowie (David Bowie)...So I made MY version. Oh those poor suckers.
iPod Roulette
I love the shuffle button on my iPod - sometimes I hear songs that I haven't heard in ages:
Let's see what the top 15 gives us:
Whenever You're on My Mind - Marshall Crenshaw (One of my favorite songs, I just love the chiming guitars)
Que Sera Sera - Sly and the Family Stone (From one of my fave movies, "Heathers")
Doralice - Stan Getz (Gotta have the bossa nova...
Hitch a Ride - Boston (And the classic rock too! Brad Delp's stratospheric voice is one of the best in rock)
Point of No Return - Expose (Oh shit, you caught me! Old School Freestyle!)
Sinner's Swing - Van Halen (Fun song! I can't believe they used to play this on the radio - there's an "F" word in there!)
Put Down that Weapon - Midnight Oil (From their 1987 album, "Diesel and Dust", saw them three times between '88 and '89; this song is about war)
La di Da di - Doug E. Fresh (Haha, gotta love this old school hip hop!
Sin City - AC/DC (Classic Bon Scott!)
Crazy Train - Emm Gryner (From the Canadian/Filipina songstress's album, "Girl Versions" in which she does acoustic versions of different songs, in this case, an Ozzy Osbourne classic)
Game of Death (theme) - John Barry Orchestra (Bruce Lee's last movie!!!! Mr. Han! The room of mirrors!)
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye - Soft Cell (I remember I had this song on a "Goodbye/Hello" compilation)
Star Wars Disco - Meco (What???? I'm not ashamed!!!!! Damn, this song even has the R2D2 sound effects!)
Suavecito - Malo (Love love love this song! One of the members is the brother of Carlos Santana)
No Myth - Michael Penn (Remember this one? Acoustic? Yes, it's Sean Penn's brother)
Noose - The Primitives (I loved late 80's Britpop)

Memorial Day
This past Memorial Day was pretty easy and kick back. We had a potluck with the family at our place.
A trio of salads: fruit salad, mac and mixed greens. Once again, my mom made the mac salad with chicken. She added cherries on top for garnish. Kinda fail because I didn't really like seeing it and tasting cherries with mayo and mac. Sorry mom! But she doesn't read this blog (or any blog for that matter) anyways.

Bird update
Sad update :(
This past Sunday, TC found one of the baby birds dead on the concrete near the bougainvillea shrub.
We were wondering how it got out of the nest when it was so young and weak. Maybe it was the runt and it got pushed out? When TC asked me to come see the bird, my heart sank. The nestling was already dead and several ants were sniffing around. The next morning it was GONE. Maybe a bigger bird came by and ate it or a neighborhood cat. Poor thing...
